Valentine's Day

In honor of my most favorite holiday, I decided to write in red.

Happy Almost Valentine's Day!!!!

Okay back to black because really I hate Hate HATE Valentine's Day. I used to love it when I was little. That is when it is so fun and exciting. I remember one Valentine's day when my parents got me all the stuff to play school, that's when I still loved the holiday. I also remember one Valentine's Day when my dog got run over, that's when the holiday began to go down hill. You would think since I am married it would be exciting for me again. But it's not. I know it's my own fault that I hate it, and I know Corny dreads this day.

My problem is as much as I hate this holiday, I for some reason have high expectations. Why?? I don't know. Every year it turns into a melt down. Let me see if I can revisit a few of our past days and the excitement that occurred.

V-Day '09- I am pregnant, I just got medicine to help with the grossness so we decide to try and go out. Kim and Adam want Aiden to spend the night with them so Corny and I can have some much needed alone time (they are the best, I miss them terribly!!). I have to work (of course, it's a holiday!) and then we plan on eating and going to see a movie. Not too exciting, but the fact that we are alone is exciting! We are running late for our movie so we share an exciting dinner at Rubios. I think I had some nachos. Half way through the movie I start getting phone calls from Aiden in hysterics saying I have to come get him. Sucks! Aiden tells Kim and Adam that he will not go pee pee until mommy and daddy come to get him. Really??!! So we leave the movie and drive to Concord to get him. When we get home I see that Corny had decorated the house for me. We just went to sleep.

V-Day '06- We were super super poor that Valentine's Day. I am not really sure why, but we were. So I was sad because no presents, and no date. Later that day Corny shows up at work with balloons, flowers, I think maybe a bear, just the standard Valentine's Day stuff. I freaked out. This is me: "Corny where did you get the money to buy this?? Did you bounce a check?? We don't have any money!! I don't want this stuff!! Take it back!!" Then I cried for like 2 hours at work. Looking back I acted like a crazy person! So what if maybe he bounced a check to try and make me happy! 4 years later it doesn't matter that we lost some money, what matters is that he was trying to make me happy. Love :) But back then it did not seem like love to me, so I ruined that day!

V-Day '02- Corny and I were dating. I was planning on driving down with a friend to SoCal to surprise Corny on the 15th. This was the first Valentine's Day that I had a boyfriend on the actual day. And this was going to be the first time Corny would have to deal with crazy Valentine Shannon. I woke up that day and the boys I live with had made breakfast for us girls. That was nice. The morning continued as I went to spend my day working at McClymonds High School. Corny's best friend called to tell me happy day. It was like 11 and I had still not heard from Corny, so I switched to crazy mode. He finally called and this is me again: "Corny! I have heard happy Valentine's day from Casey, Kyle, Anthony, and Chris before I even heard it from you!! I was planning something special for you because it's our first Valentine's Day together and you don't care!!" And on and on and on! I am terrible. I went down there anyways and even after my fit he still proposed to me that weekend.

Man, Corny has to deal with a lot!! Everyone else reading this should be real happy they don't have to be married to me on this happy love day. This year my goal is to have zero expectations and go with the flow. Not get upset just be happy that I have a husband that loves me enough to put up with 8 Valentine's Days so far, and is still willing to face another one with me. We are going to have our dinner tonight because Corny is off work tomorrow and I want to be able to stay up late (on the real day I will be home with the 2 kids while he works a double, but I am going to try real Real REAL hard not to complain!!).

A little baking-- I am going to bake Apple tarts tonight. Corny is not big on sweets, so I let him pick what he wanted. I will share all the pictures with you tomorrow. I think Corny is making Rib-Eye, asparagus, and our yummy potatoes. I will show pictures of that too. We will have some wine and champagne and probably play a game and just enjoy (I will try so hard) each other.

Now I did see something super super exciting on TV last night. They have personal Valentine's Day shoppers at Walgreen's! That seems like the funniest thing ever to me! So I told Corny each of us will go to Walgreen's with a $20-$30 budget and must buy whatever the personal shopper selects for the other person. This makes me real excited!!

Just visit Walgreens.com if you want to play too!

I do really truly have the best husband ever :)

Almost forgot to tell you about Stella. We went the GI doctor yesterday and really liked him. He put her on her 4th medicine, and also scheduled us to go in for an upper GI next week. He is currently treating her for severe GERD, but once she gets the GI we will know more. He thinks the fevers could be caused by the throw-up going into her lungs. She's 4 1/2 months and only weighs 11 pounds! I am really praying we that next week we will have all our answers!
